Tox 101: What’s a “Unit” — and Why Dose Matters

One of the most common questions we hear at Anti-Aging Centers is: “How many units will I need?” When it comes to wrinkle relaxers like Jeuveau and Botox, a “unit” is simply the measurement used to determine how much product is being injected into a muscle. The stronger the muscle movement, the more units are typically needed to soften lines effectively.
Here’s the reality check: dose matters. A lot.
Many clients are tempted by extremely low pricing or ultra-small doses, but underdosing often leads to results that wear off faster or don’t fully smooth the area being treated. In most cases, the longevity of your results is directly connected to receiving an appropriate dose for your facial anatomy and muscle strength. Think of it this way — if you only partially relax the muscle, it’s going to bounce back more quickly.
While both Jeuveau and Botox are FDA-approved neuromodulators designed to soften dynamic wrinkles, some clients find Jeuveau kicks in a little faster, while Botox has longstanding brand recognition and decades of clinical use. The most important factor, though, isn’t just the brand — it’s proper placement, dosing, and injector expertise.
Preventative tox has become one of the most effective tools for maintaining a refreshed, youthful appearance over time. By reducing repetitive muscle movement, treatments help prevent deeper lines from etching into the skin permanently. No skincare product can truly stop muscle movement the way neuromodulators can.
On average, both Jeuveau and Botox Cosmetic last about 3–4 months for most clients. Some may notice results lasting a little longer with consistent treatments over time.
That said, duration can absolutely vary based on your individual metabolism and lifestyle factors. Clients who exercise very frequently, have a naturally fast metabolism, experience high stress levels, or are very expressive with facial movement may notice results wear off a bit sooner. On the other hand, some clients may maintain results closer to the 4–5 month mark.
At Anti-Aging Centers, the goal is never to look frozen or overdone — it’s to look rested, smoother, and like the best version of yourself. Consistent treatments over time can make a major difference in slowing visible signs of aging while still keeping your results natural and expressive.
